One of the most exciting and affordable classes of Open Wheelers in Australian Speedway, Lightning Sprints use either highly-modified small car or large motorcycle engines and depending on club specifications, can use either a chain drive arrangement or the traditional quick-change differential.
Each car is equipped with a methanol injected 1000 cc engine, which produces around 200 horsepower. They weigh approximately 300kg, giving them a great power-to-weight ratio.
Lightning Sprints run on the East Coast of Australia throughout Queensland, NSW and Victoria. They are the second quickest class in the country at certain tracks, behind 410 Sprintcars, with many Lightning Sprint drivers going on to compete in 410 Sprintcars.
