Queensland’s Top Crown on Offer

A solid field of drivers are gearing up to go into battle this Saturday night in an effort to clinch the Stockmans Civil & Plant Queensland Lightning Sprint Title spoils at Kingaroy Speedway, but it’s certainly going to be no easy feat.

With defending and two-time Queensland Champion Keith Blatch amongst the ranks, challengers are going to have their work cut out for them as they attempt to wrest the title back from the Toowoomba-based racer.

However, while Blatch has enjoyed a consistent start to the 2018-19 season, currently leading the Queensland Club Championship point score, he has yet to achieve a feature-race win, which is a stat that his rivals would like to keep in place.

Having well and truly proven that he has what it takes to win title events in the past, past Australian and NSW Champion Kurt Wilson, from Lismore in NSW, will be one of the likely picks to take the fight to Blatch, along with the highly-competitive Iacono clan from Toowoomba, which consists of Sean Iacono, former Queensland Title holder Wayne Iacono (Sean’s uncle) and Jayden Iacono (Wayne’s son).

Newcomer Scott Jukes has experienced an impressive introduction to the class, coming home in the runner-up spot during a recent feature race, along with fellow newbie in Tyler Stralow, who has plenty of promising signs in his rookie season.

Off the back of collecting his maiden feature-race win, David Van Vegchel will be riding a wave of confidence heading into the Queensland Title, while Jason Rae, Jim Kennedy and Andrew Sparks are going to be drivers to keep an eye on.

Completing the strong Queensland Title line-up are Michael Gollagher, Darren Baldwin and another NSW visitor in Danny Stone.

A total of four heat races along with a 25-lap Queensland Title deciding feature race makes up the format for this Saturday night’s action.
