This Saturday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway will see the annual Silver Cup, which is presented by Everyday Finance Solutions / Speed Partz Australia, and a hotly-contested field is ready to fight it out for glory.
The 11-car nomination field is headed by newly-crowned NSW Champion Kurt Wilson. The Lismore-based racer has without a doubt been the form driver so far this season and currently leads the Queensland Club Championship point standings.
Toowoomba’s Sean Iacono, the current Australian and Queensland Champion, hasn’t enjoyed the best of runs this season. However, following his uncle, Wayne, driving his car to second in last Saturday night’s NSW Title, Sean is confident of being able to return to the winner’s circle in the Silver Cup.
Fellow Toowoomba-based racer Scott Genrich is another driver hungry for success at the Silver Cup. Like Iacono, Genrich has battled consistency so far this season, but he is looking to turn that form around.
In what will be their first appearance of the season, Dave Van Vegchel and Sean Hill are hoping to hit the ground running with strong performances.
The Lismore-based brothers of Lindsay and Brendon Clapham are making the trek up to Archerfield Speedway and looking forward to the challenge ahead of them.
Other Silver Cup nominations include Michael Gollagher, Glenn Prowse, Ian Galvin and Shane Matthews.
The format on the night will be two rounds of heat races and then twin 15-lap feature races. The first feature race will have the starting order determined by the heat races; the second feature race will be a full inversion of the field based on points. The highest overall point scorer at the end of the night will be awarded the $500 winner’s cheque.
