Last Sunday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway, Kurt Wilson scored his third Lightning Sprint feature-race win of the season in Queensland; however, it was an impressive Glen Prowse who certainly made him have to work hard for it.
The Northern NSW-based Wilson, who had started from position six in the feature-race field, managed to chase down Prowse and pass him for the lead in the middle stages of the 15-lap journey. Once out in front, Wilson was unstoppable and romped to victory.

In what was without a doubt a career-best drive, Prowse, after setting the pace for the opening half of the race, held on to record a second-place finish on the podium. It was a result he was very pleased with.
Making a cameo return to the Lightning Sprints class, Wayne Iacono, who has this season stepped into the 410 Sprintcars, capped the night with a third place. Wayne was guest driving in the Aus # 1 car normally driven by Sean Iacono (Wayne’s nephew), which came after Sean stepped out of the car and handed over the driving duties to his uncle.
Jeremy Hassell, Emma Harris and Lismore’s Glen Eyears completed the finishers.
Current Australia # 3 Kirsty Kelly and defending Queensland Club Champion Michael Gollagher were down as the non-finishers. Gollagher suffered mechanical woes and slowed, and he was collected by Kelly on the way through and sustained race-ending car damage.
In the heat-race action, the wins were shared between Wilson (x 2) and Prowse.
Lismore’s Craig Transton had his night brought to a premature end after the heat races due to mechanical woes and was consequently unable to take his place in the feature race.
The next race meeting on this season’s calendar is going to be the annual Silver Cup on the Saturday night of February 13 at Archerfield Speedway.
